Great advice Larry.
My daughter recently experienced some lowlife successively applying for
credit in her name and ordering a new X-box/live subscription. The first
she knew of it was an email confirmation and shipping details!
First thing I had her do was freeze her credit reports on the big three,
Experian, Equifax and TransUnion.
I told her if it happened once, it could happen again. The only thing we
could think of was the Target data breach which occurred a few years back
since she has a credit card there.
That's how the hacker scum operate, they don't bother with buying goods
they just wait until the heats died down then sell the personal info itself
on the dark web.
We were successful in canceling the order and stopping the thief from
getting the goods but it was a PITA hassle.
Your information is out there people, and it isn't as secure as we'd like
to think. Nobody is 100% safe but you can reasonably protect yourself by
following this advice.
Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention Larry.

There is no charge to freeze your credit reports, but you must do it
at all three agencies. It can easily be temporarily released should
you need to apply for credit; it can then be easily reinstated. No
     fees to do so.
