[DeTomaso] What are these brackets for?

Hi guys,

I’m looking at a Pantera under restoration in Tokyo. They removed these two brackets which appear to have been riveted in place:





You can see there were plastic doofers which were used to capture screws. For the life of me I can’t remember what these brackets are for? I briefly though maybe engine screen, but no?

The car is a December ‘72 L-model. 

Ideas?
