[DeTomaso] Rear Wheel Bearing

No reason other than possible cost differential and obtaining assurances the rebuilt ones have been correctly rebuilt and not just had a set of bearings installed. As Larry stated it is common for the bearings to spin on the axles as factory axles were a little undersize for the required press fit. The spacer mating face condition is also pretty critical. Reusing scored axles in a rebuild will put you right back in the same position in very few miles.
The vendors offer rebuilt units on a core exchange basis as well, I know Larry Stock is thorough on his rebuilds, at least he was when I was doing them for him.....

Any reason why I can't replace the entire assembly from an earlier year car. Bob Levitt has extra complete assemblies for both sides from what he believes is a 73. I have a 74 and I wasn't sure if there are any differences in the years. It would certainly be easier to just swap out the entire assembly then trying to take it apart without the right tools.

I just went thru replacing my rear wheel bearings and axles. You should have a tin bearing protector plate thing there for type of bearings you have. In any case, I agree that it's a problem noticed before something bad could happen. An open bearing there probably won't last long!
