The Veglia water temperature gauge and the original Ford sending unit
was never a match. Ford dealers would many times install a resistor in
the wire going to the gauge to reduce the temperature and get a more
accurate reading.
I am also using a Fontana aluminum block, but with CHI 3V heads. My
water temperature gauge sending unit is in one cylinder head and the EFI
water temperature sending unit is in the other cylinder head. The
temperature gauge is an Autometer and there is no resister in the wire
going to it. The surge tank water temperature gauge sending unit
location was never a very good idea to start with and many owners that
have Cleveland engines relocated the sending unit to the block.
There is a company in New Mexico that can take your Veglia water
temperature gauge and oil pressure gauge and install Stewart Warner
internals with matching sending units. I believe that it would be well
worth the money and time to have it done.
