[DeTomaso] 6328 Resto Files - The Wiring Wall

Another thing hard to believe - NONE. It’s my first car. Got a job delivering them to the BMC dealer so NOBODY could take it over all the RR tracks in Fisherman’s Wharf with wire wheels. Had the drive unit out a few times putting an electric overdrive in it - was sold one that was supposed to be perfect - it was “beat” - replaced the cone clutch, and it was all better. It’s a 1965 and o/d didn’t come out until 1967 - it was fun splitting shifts in 3rd & 4th gears. Made it a 6-speed - lol. It was always babied. Still has original British Racing Green.
So here I put 1/4 million miles on an Austin motor - considered impossible, and yet blow up the rotary within 500 miles. The motor is a 13B Mazda - so the new logo etc. is MG-13B. Bridge-ported. Just can’t take it to top speed in 5th gear - it’s way to light for the speed it makes. Waiting to drive it at Watkins Glen, NY. Lots of good stories go with this car -

Sounds hard to believe - but true. Drove it off the ship in San Francisco in 1965. Now has a 250 h.p. rotary @ 11,500 red line. A little rocket ship.
