Really?

I was just going to post that I just completed a 3,400 mile road trip in my Pantera.

My car hasn't really been on the road in ~10 years. I put it up for a complete rebuild, started driving it 2 years ago, had an engine problem, and just got it back on the road.

Miami - Houston - San Antonio - Austin - Little Rock - Miami - plus a few side trips here/there.

Issues:
It wouldn’t start at the first gas stop - barely 1 mile from home. The battery was dead. I drove it a while hoping the alternator would charge the battery, but that didn't work. I finally stopped at an Autozone, bought a battery, and as I was jumping the car noticed a wire was broken on the alternator. Fixed that, problem solved.
The gas gauge isn't working, neither is the speedo. Neither are important. The windshield wipers don't work either, and the driver's window doesn’t go up all the way. All of these are easy enough to fix, but they didn't make the list before I could leave.
On the way home about 40 miles outside of Memphis, I went to flash my brights to a trucker to tell him he was safe to change lanes. Everything went dead. Somehow it blew a fuse. Easy fuse swap, and I was back on the road. I haven't looked at the issue yet. I just stopped flashing brights.
Headlights wouldn't pop up near Naples, FL. They came on, and I have the Jon Haas kit that turns the lights on only when the lights are all the way up - so it was probably the micro switches. My butt was sore, so I crashed for the night. In the morning, they were working again. It figures.
I don't have the PCV hooked up yet. This carburetor doesn't have a vacuum port, and neither does the intake. I figured no big deal - but it puked a fair amount of oil onto the valve covers. Easy fix. It will make the list the next time.
Lots of minor issues. Hey - this car was in pieces a few years ago, so it's a wonder the wheels still roll in the right direction.

Other notables:
I saw lots of friends, but not everyone I wanted to see.
Engine ran great, plus it got 18-20 mpg, which is a surprise because it has a 4" crank, A3 heads, and a healthy cam.
I got photographed maybe 30 times - twice it was a guy on a Harley, and once the guy nearly ran off the road.
Nearly everyone knew it was a Pantera. This is very different from, "That's a what?" or "Nice Ferrari."

And finally, when my butt was sore after driving for 12 hours, I was thinking about cleaning it up, selling it, and buying something else. Seriously. But we made up in the morning, so we're good.
