Larry,

I sold my mom’s ‘65 Buick just over a year ago on BaT. They were magnificent to work with. They charge a flat $99 to the seller whether it sells or not. The buyer pays a commission to them which is transparent to you.

They will not accept just anything—you have to apply to sell your car there. They will certainly accept anything interesting like your car, but the ‘83 Toyota Corolla won’t cut it. You wrote the ad copy and they edit it, and build the auction for you. You get to check the draft and give final approval before it goes live. They also work with you to establish a realistic reserve. If you think your reserve should be objectively too high they will refuse it. In my case their analysis was spot on.

My mom’s car failed to meet reserve and ended in a no-sale. However BaT then gave me the contact info for the high bidder and we were able to come to an agreement (he paid the reserve price). BaT received nothing from this because the sale happened outside their auction, even though they facilitated the sale.

Very gentlemanly people there.....

Mike
