Dear Mike,

Ah, my mistake. 427: no ZF, only T44. 289: ZF. Now, that is straight.

                                Warmest regards, Chuck Engles

Chuck,

Very cool!

Remember, no big-block GT40 ever used a ZF gearbox. Ford concluded the ZF design would never withstand the torque, and when Kar Kraft took on the development of the big-block Mk II models for the 1966 season, part of that process involved the development of the T44 four-speed transaxle, a GT40-specific design utilizing the internals from the standard Ford toploader four-speed.

Genuine T44 transaxles are extremely rare and you might be able to trade a decent Pantera for one today!

Mike
