Just as a supplement to my last email ...
I used the copper tube Doug mentions to locate WHERE I needed to create a hole in the A/C core. As you mention Rich, my core did not come with the hole/recess in the core. I used the original hole in the case to locate where to twist-in the long drill bit --- in order to create the hole.

Rich,
The stock setup has a 3-12" long, 1/4" OD, 0.17" ID, copper guide tube with a flange on one end of it so it won't get lost in the heater case. This guide tube has about a 10 degree curve to its last 1.5" of the end that goes into the case. I assume this curve is to help get it into the slightly offset hole in the evaporator that is somewhat obscured by one of the 180 degree Evap. cooling tube bends on that end of the Evap. Do you still have this old guide tube? and is it installed in your heater case?. It ends up looking a lot like a copper grommet from outside the heater case.
I've attached a picture (I hope its file size is small enough to get through)

Subject: [DeTomaso] Air conditioning evaporator
I purchased and installed and aftermarket ac evaporator that has more cooling tubes and less heater tubes in it.
It has been in the car a couple years without being used while I restored the car.
Now I am trying to install the ac thermostat switch with the tube that goes into the evaporator.
I cannot find a hole in the side of the evaporator where the tube goes in.
Has anyone else come up with this issue or do you have any idea where the hole is.
I have camera that goes into the hole but I still do not see anything.
I am thinking of running the tube in the ac box and around to the front of the evaporator to just use air being blow out to operate.
Anyone have input?
Rich
