Many years ago I had a fuel pump that acted the same way. New fuel pump and
problem solved.Took forever to figure out it was the fuel pump.

     A A A A Hello Pantera Experts,
     A A A A I have a 1973 that has developed an intermittent shutdown
     of the
A A A A ignition system while driving. The car would restart
     after several
A A A A cranking attempts and then run for various amounts of
     time (30 secs to
     A A A A 15+ minutes) before quitting again. The problem developed
     during a 45
A A A A min pleasure drive. I suspected the unilite module in the
     mallory
A A A A distributor, so changed it to a new one. Started the car,
     warmed it up,
A A A A and ran it at 3K in the garage. While running at 3000 rpm
     I felt
A A A A several instances of ignition cutout just like the
     situation on my
A A A A previous long drive. I now suspect a short from an errant
     wire, or
A A A A intermittent ignition switch contact, or failing coil or
     ballast
A A A A resistor. Prior to this recent problem the car ran great
     for years and
     A A A A on longer trips.
A A A A I have disconnected the wiring in the engine compartment
     and removed
A A A A the coil and ballast resistor. When preparing to
     disconnect the coil to
     A A A A replace it I found jury-rigged connections using tape
     covered spades to
A A A A connect to the existing connector on the wiring loom. I
     have attached a
     A A A A photo (IMG-9306.jpg) of the previous wiring around the
     coil. Now that I
A A A A have everything disconnected, I want to put it back
     together properly
A A A A with good wiring practice. I have ordered the proper
     mating connector
A A A A to attach to the loom connector.
     A A A A I have two questions for the crowd:
A A A A 1. Any other suggestions of what else to check related to
     the
A A A A intermittent cutout of the ignition system while running?
     A A A A 2. The attached photo (IMG-9633.jpg) of the loom
     connector shows the
     A A A A following existing wiring: a blue w/black tracer wire and
     a lighter
A A A A blue wire tied together to one side of the connector, and
     a red wire
A A A A and orange wire tied together on the other side of the
     connector. Does
A A A A this look correct compared to other 73 pantera ignition
     connector
     A A A A wiring examples?
A A A A I plan to remove and clean the ignition switch, as well
     as ring out the
A A A A wiring from the steering column to the ignition connector
     before
A A A A installing a new coil and related wiring in the engine
     bay.
A A A A Thanks in advance for any feedback.
     A A A A Regards,
     A A A A Craig
