[DeTomaso] Charlie’s clutch

Mike,

Where are you shopping for parts?

Centerforce billet 164 tooth flywheel is about $325, the aluminum $450, but you kinda need to look at the big picture....

On the McLeod site they only recommend the 75110 Street Pro (400HP) or 75210 Super Street Pro (500HP) under DeTomaso Pantera. A price tag of $560 for the Street Pro version. The pictures on Summit Racing show a diaphragm style for the same part #, but McLeod show a 3 finger style and neither has an accurate description to determine whom is correct, but I'd lean towards McLeod.

The 400HP Centerforce is $347 all day long, so under normal circumstance you'd be out $675 for the total Centerforce setup with a new flywheel and $560 for McLeod, however, it appears Summit Racing have the Super Street Pro version priced lower than the lesser capable Street Pro and on sale right now for $473, that's a significant savings over the likes of Jegs etc. advertised price.

Because it requires expensive (in Spain) machine work to redrill the flywheel. If they get it even a bit wrong the car will shake like a wet dog.

Or, the purchase of a $600 Centerforce aluminum flywheel. I don’t know if they offer an iron version or not.

The fact that they sell a clutch that requires so much extra cost and/or effort because they can’t be bothered to make it correctly, rules them out IMHO. Their clutch itself is quite good (although the whole weights thing is a total BS gimmick they came up with to circumvent McLeod’s patent on their diaphragm clutch) and if I had one in a car I certainly would feel perfectly fine with it.

But I would never convert a car to use it, if I could help it.
