[DeTomaso] Distributor / Radio Plate

Thanks Jack, it has been a long time. Once I have my new motor and get the environmental control system back in, I’m planning on attending a Rallye and will see you again.

I don’t have enough interest in that distributor to do that to the car. If I have to, I will use the smaller diameter MSD and be done with it. Still want the Sniper system though…

Richard

Hi Richard- been a while since we spoke. As far as I know, ALL narrow body Panteras have about the same engine position relative to distributor cap clearance. But it is quite possible to shift the whole powertrain backward any distance up to about 7/8" for big-cap clearance. Beyond 7/8" of movement, an Aviaid oil pan sump will hit the stock (or removable) crossmember under the engine, and the upper bay-brace may touch a stock external clutch slave cylinder mount.

The backward shift mods consist of drilling a new hole in the upper engine mounts (or switching stock offset-drilled motormounts side-for-side for max reposition), and bending a shallow 'S' in the soft steel ears of the ZF mount tabs and adding washers. Shifting the powertrain backward helps if you want to minimize the firewall bulge for passenger leg room, too. Done carefully, all this looks stock.
Cheers- J Deryke

Listers,

Does anyone have any experience with the Holley Hyperspark distributor? I'm

considering using the Sniper system on my new engine and would like to use

their distributor but I'm concerned it won't have enough clearance at the

bulkhead or the engine screen. Mine is a '74 which I think has a little

more room than the earlier cars, but don't remember for sure. Holley sent

me the dimensions so I'm going to use them to try to estimate the spacing.

Also, who sells good radio (delete) plates these days--I want to remove my

old Alpine radio which isn't even connected to anything anymore...

Thanks,

Richard

Austin, TX
