Folks,First thanks for all your input!!   You folks rock!!    Update:
   - Charged battery to full charge--(wasn't low)
   - Added 3 gallons of gas from can-little over 1/4 tank now
   - Car started--idled for about 5 mins.   took around block, ran ok
   - Stalled, then would not stay running,  had to feather gas. Eventually limped home starting and riding clutch till it stalled and started up again
   - Seems I have no fuel filter on the stock hard line going to a stainless braided fuel line assembly into my 2 Road Demon carb inlets.
   -  Help-suggestions!
 Thanks!    -----Original Message-----

Just a watch out for older motors (over 30) I think concentrating on fuel is the right way to go and looking at the lines and fuel quality and carburetor function is important for safety and enjoyment.  I keep a disposable syringe handy to fill the bowls from the vent after a long sit. It's almost certainly fuel.
Older motors have plastic on the timing set and the valve seals.  Sometimes the older pieces flake off and can settle in the oil pan and jam the oil pump briefly and shear the timing pin which usually makes the car not start at all but occasionally leads to binding where after setting timing the timing wanders after starting.  That's probably *not* happening here it is so rare but... older motors, even stock low miles ones may need attention.

   Folks,
Scenario:  1972-stock motor with Demon carb--ran great only a few
months ago.  Took seats out ot reupholster.  Car sat for a month
   Car starts and stalls
Give it gas-fights to stay running
   Observations:
   Very low on gas
Ammeter pinned to right the entire minute  the car was fighting to
   run.
Added some gas--definitely off E but not a 1/4 tank  ran much longer
but still had to feather gas to keep running--Ammeter pinned to right
all the time car was struggling to keep running
I haven't run the car in a month.
   Suggestions?  Thoughts?
   Thanks!!!
