[DeTomaso] Advantages of CV Half Shafts?

I think (not sure) Scott and most use 930 CV joints?  There are 934 CVs that are stronger, but think pretty big, maybe too big?

You can get high strength axles, I think 300M steel?

I've had a Jag XKE for 40 years - great cars - one of their major weaknesses are the rear half-shafts.  I've replaced the U-joints twice now.  When I got our Pantera and saw the half shafts it was a no brainer for me - replace them with CV joints.  Got them from Dennis - as I recall he said they were good for 700 hp.  As I recall.

Flip side, you can grease your u-joints religiously (if they have the zerks), being ever so careful not to pop the rubber seals out, and then you can clean up the mess after you drive it and it slings grease every where.

Of course, we've also put 140K miles on our XKE - hey, if you are building a garage queen - let the next guy take care of the problem.  But if you are really, really going to drive your car - the cost is just not significant.

No grease messing up your engine bay. No vibrations.

I got tired of regularly swapping u-joints and went with the adapter style shafts. They are heavy, but it was one of the best things I’ve done. They have been zero maintenance.
