[DeTomaso] Gooseneck fuel filler caps for sale

Jim,

It’s all in the setup time. You bought yours when they were still in production and had been purchased in the hundreds, and were just sitting on the shelf. That drives the cost way down.

I had to buy 20 to make it somewhat reasonable. If I had just had two made, they would have cost hundreds of dollars each. And if I had a thousand made they probably would have cost $15 or something.....

Subject: [DeTomaso] Gooseneck fuel filler caps for sale
   Guys,
Most 1971-73 Panteras have been fitted with an aftermarket gooseneck
fuel filler that was made for many years by Hall Pantera. This filler
uses a billet aluminum fine-thread cap, equipped with the De Tomaso
logo and a rubber seal (both to contain fumes and to provide friction
   so it won't vibrate loose).
Some may remember that many years ago, Larry Finch lost his cap in a
gas station, and discovered that the filler neck and cap had been
discontinued and they were no longer available. He tooled up to have a
run of new caps made, and quickly sold out.
In July, a friend in Germany managed to forget his cap in France on his
way home from Le Mans. He asked me to source a replacement, and
committed to buying two to have one as a spare, a wise move indeed.
After searching all around I found that there were no replacement caps
to be found. After talking with Larry, I decided to follow his lead and
have another production run made. The extra machining required for the
addition of the De Tomaso logo cap, and the cap itself both added to
the cost, but I was determined to maintain the quality of the
   originals.
I now have a limited number available for purchase (18 remaining). Once
they are gone, there will be no more. I have no financial interest
apart from trying to make my money back; I am selling them at my cost,
   which is $50 each.
Here is what they look like:
As I said, when this limited production run is gone, there will be no
more. I have always kept a spare for myself because of the inherent
risk of losing these caps (the seal insures they won't fall off by
themselves, but nothing will prevent you from leaving it on top of the
   gas station pump).
If you are interested in having a spare cap, contact me right away. If
I don't sell all of them to you guys, eventually they will be sold (for
   a higher price) on eBay.
   Cheers!
   Mike
