[DeTomaso] headlights

When we went through the headlight mechanism I found that one of the field magnets in the motor had come lose and was up against the other magnet - which is not going to help the motor work well. I JB welded the magnet back where it belonged and headlights raise nicely.

If you haven’t done it already, I found swapping the gear from the factory plastic to bronze (plus liberal lubrication) made a huge difference in raise/lowering speed (it’s the same one used for the windows). Rob D’Orazio installed linear actuators for his headlamps, and it’s not only quick, but enabled him to delete the headlamp rotational bar, which makes accessing the radiator a lot easier.

Sometime in the early ‘80s, the headlights on my dad’s Pantera slowed wayyyyy down. I remember he replaced the motor, and the lights would raise in half the time. Evidently the motors aren’t sealed well from the elements, and umpteen years of dirt/heat/moisture can really take its toll - not to mention you can use an egg timer to measure the speed.
