George Pence provided an explanation to explain the large China wall gap.

He said the CHI 4V heads are designed with raised intake ports. CHI therefore makes the heads a little wider than stock so when the manifold is placed on the heads, the manifold ports will match the new head port location, and in the process increasing the gap at the bottom of the manifold.
