[DeTomaso] "proper" radiator fan sensor location??

Larry,

I will be using the radiator fan controller by Pantera Electronics and that unit was specifically designed to have the temperature sensor in the outlet tank or very close to the out pipe. As I am using the Ron Davis/ Quella double pass radiator which only has the bungs in the inlet tank, I will be adding an in-line temperature sensor located at the outlet pipe. Here is a link to that adapter. (Apparently Toyota's use 1-3/8" radiator hoses too)

I also have a Superior radiator and it has a bung in the inlet tank and one in the outlet tank along with two bleed valves (one on left and one on right side). I went with the Ron Davis radiator as I can get slightly larger fans. If anybody is interested the unused Superior Radiator is for sale and I have a couple of 12" Spal fans I won't be using either.

John

Subject: [DeTomaso] "proper" radiator fan sensor location??

All,

I’ve run this through the DeTomaso forums and received varying replies.

So, let’s see what the email list has to say.

The Ron Davis double pass sold by Quella has two sensor bungs located in the INLET tank.

The Fluidyne double pass has a sensor bung located in both the INLET and OUTLET tanks.

eBay offered double pass radiator, by Superior radiator, has one sensor bung located in OUTLET tank.

Wizard radiator double pass has one bung in the OUTLET tank

Stock Pantera double pass has inlet tank on the bottom, outlet tank on the top of radiator. Assuming horizontal baffle in tank.

I don’t believe the radiator cares, for cooling purposes, whether inlet is bottom or top. But due to the undercar pipe locations and the limited space, it doesn’t seem too easy to re-plumb the Pantera inlet to the top tank. So Pantera inlet will generally be the bottom tank.

So, where is the proper location for a single temp sensor to control two sucker fans?

INLET or OUTLET?

Thanks,

Larry
