[DeTomaso] NPC - interesting design story - 240Z

    Here’s a story Effie! It was the spring of 1972 and I was at my drummer house in the hills above Jack Murphy Stadium. His name is Jonnie Gilstrap who went in to play drums for San Diego’s own, THE MONROES!!!
      We were standing in his driveway and I asked him about this car sitting in the dirt adjacent to the driveway with weeds and grass growing about 10 inches high all around it. He explained that an old band mate of his had left it there a couple of years ago and then he just flat disappeared, abandoning the vehicle. 
      I tried to reach him at his last two addresses with no avail. I then did the DMV request for a title for the abandoned vehicle, which involved certified return receipt letter to his last known address. After the letter being returned as not deliverable I had to wait for either 30 or 60 days and then I received the title for a 1962 (I think) Austin Healey 3000 Mk II with the triple carbs on the straight 6 cylinder engine. 
     I hauled it to where I worked and spent time getting it running, new tires, and putting the wiring back to the factory schematic versus the           “ hold my beer - I can make it work “!!😱😱😱😱
      I only owned it for a year or so then saw my first Porsche on interstate 8 one afternoon and bought one about 8 months later. 
      I had the doors and paint sucked off my Porsche by a  ......... wait for it . . . A bright red DeTomaso Pantera ! ! ! 
   I went to the Lincoln Mercury dealer in Long Beach and bought a PANTERA the next weekend, after being introduced to the awesomeness of the PANTERA ! That was in 1977 and never looked back. I’ve had several Pantera’s,  Ferrari’s and Porsche’s since ‘77 but the one car that quickens my pulse is the PANTERA !!!!
