FWIW
Flywheel mounting holes are indexed to the crank when made. The threaded holes in crank are not all equally spaced. All flywheels are made to match that pattern, thus flywheel can only be mounted at proper index to crank.
It is possible to make marks on flywheel through the bell housing hole and housing..... but you need a known good damper so you can set crank to proper rotation, then mark housing and flywheel. A center punch can be used to make marks. White paint can be applied at key marks to help aid use of them..

Very true. No Fords had timing marks on the flywheel. It would be
impossible to see on anything but a Pantera.
