All,

I recently looked at purchasing another Pantera -- it is for sale in
Tucson. Here is the link:

   https://inventory.crownconceptsusa.com/vehicles/151/1972-de-tomaso-pantera

It is still listed for sale, but the value was good enough that it might
already be sold, and I was told others were lined up behind me. Anyway, if
someone is interested they can call dealer to check, and he was easy to
work with (as was the consigning owner).

The car struck me as desirable for several reasons - it was in AZ, has most
of the desired updates, is on consignment to a reputable motorsports dealer
that was easy to work with, the car is owned by a long term member/officer
of the Arizona Pantera Club (which is part of POCA), the car appeared very
well cared for and had a recent restoration, it had a six point cage (now 4
point it appears), and other tasteful mods (imho). Unfortunately, I could
not get down to actually inspect the car. The car has about 90K miles
(which doesn't bother me -- SN5533 that I bought from Asa Jay has more than
that).

For a week or so I was second in line to buy the car, and then the first
guy passed. Since I couldn't see the car in person due to travel, and bc I
was told others were lined up behind me to buy it, I ordered a compression
and leak down test. The test came back showing a very tired motor. There
were only two other issues with the car that I could determine based on
multiple detailed conversations with the dealer: (1) A/C - the compressor
had been replaced a few years ago, but the belt was not hooked up, and (2)
the windshield wipers were not mounted (but were reportedly operable). But
the price reflected those three issues, and all other questions came back
favorably answered. Anyways, with all my race cars and several other tired
motors in my possession, I decided against another engine rebuild for me at
this time.

I say all this for a few reasons: (1) after talking to a few Forum members,
they thought I should share the experience and knowledge, particularly
regarding the few issues, (2) I thought this was a nice and fairly priced
Pantera, and (3) the owner is a fellow POCA member looking to sell the car,
and if we can help him great. Most of us would not shy away from a motor
rebuild. If I didn't have other engine projects on my other cars, I would
probably still buy it - it wasn't price that stopped or the issues, it was
time to address them.

I hope if anyone else is interested in the car -- or knows someone who is
-- they can use that information to pick up where I left off, with the
knowledge base that I gained a as a starting place.
