[DeTomaso] AmeriSport Cars

Now I changed the subject to AmeriSports Cars.

AmeriSport cars >DO< carry a DeTomaso VIN… Larry, check on the foot box of the car VIN you sited, 111014.

I believe you will find the typical DeTomaso pattern VIN stamped there, THPN??09???

Find the number and let me know! I can cross-reference it.

I consider cars AmeriSport ‘completed’ to be a DeTomaso. These Panteras carry an additional VIN starting with A9P,

which identifies them as an AmeriSport completed product.

One can search for them directly via the DeTomaso short VIN, they also appear on the AmeriSport list, under both VIN patterns.

Even without Kirk’s help, over the last 20+ years, I have identified some 27 of the likely 29 cars he ‘marketed’.

Kirk, you can still help me out with the last two, then I can finally close that part of the task.

This does not count the cars Kirk Evans imported for specific people, like Carroll Shelby.

There are two or more cars in this group.

I consider the cars (Panteras, Longchamps, and ???) completed by “DeTomaso cars Australia”, to be a DeTomaso.

I consider the last dozen or so Mangustas, completed by a German (I forget his name) to still be DeTomaso cars.

Chuck

They do not carry a DeTomaso manufacture code, they were under Amerisport as the official US manufacturing and they gave Kirk his own designator in the VIN. That apparently started out as 1A9PN, image attached. Remember Kirk had to make them comply wit DOT and EPA US Standards as separate manufacture.

But the coaches WERE built by De Tomaso and have underlying De Tomaso VIN's, but simply shipped less engine and transmission. An Amerisport Pantera is as much a De Tomaso as any De Tomaso IMO and I think that fact would be backed up by sales prices!

Julian

Then Amerisport GT-5S Pantera’s would also NOT qualify.
