It must be a common problem since I had the same issue a few years ago but fixed it. The good news is that it can probably be fixed without buying new parts. The bad news is that I don't know how I fixed it.

It began happening after opening up the steering column. I don't remember why I did it now, but there you go... I lived with it for 2-3 years, where I'd have to hold the lever up or down for the turn signals to work. I disassembled the steering column again, and by chance it now worked properly in one direction but not the other. So I disassembled it once again and, looking at things, more or less figured out how to position the cam, and I've had happiness ever since. If you are bored, take the cover off the steering column and wiggle things around to see how it all works?

Well lets see, turn right things works as it should, turn left, the lever will not stay in the down position I need to hold it down!
Sounds like I need to talk with SoCal Bill Taylor!
        Thanks for everyone's adviseCurt

         Curt,

You contradict yourself. If it does not stay in the down position to the left, then it is cancelling as soon as you let go. If it is not cancelling to the left, then it is staying down. Which is it?

Bill Taylor is the go-to guy to fix it, but he can’t fix a problem unless you can accurately describe it. :)
