Was it running strangely before you replaced the plugs and wires?
Sometimes while replacing wires the distributor cap can get tilted or a
holddown clip could pop off (especially in that cramped space behind the
window), I've put my plug wires on exactly one socket off for all 8 wires
so that's worth checking too. THe coil wire is always worth checking and
sometimes the power to the coil will fall off if you are using those awful
Ford doohickies instead of positive ignition nuts and washers.

Usual procedure applies:
if it's been down for a while, is it getting fuel? Try a little starting
fluid.
Is it getting spark? You can check this by taking a wilre off a plug and
using a used plug to see spark (handy to look back at it through the window
if you can position it against the intake manifold).
Is it getting good timing? That's hardest to check but you can see it in
the distributor rotor if it turns and set it to spark at #1 at intake TDC
to see if it starts. It's a bit of a rabbithole after that but completely
solvable.

Uh....

At a risk of asking the obvious, did you remove and replace one wire at a time? If you just pulled all the wires off and threw them on the ground, it?s a lot tougher to know which new wire goes where.

Is the car snorting and Backfiring? Or is it just cranking over with nary a peep of ignition? If it?s the latter, I would suspect the coil wire. Try swapping the old coil wire back and see if that works?

Yes. One at a time. I was also thinking the coil wire. Will try it after I finish this delicious ice cold import.

A couple of questions...
1. Does it have gas???
If the tank was near empty and it's been sitting for months, you may be out of gas. Add a gallon to the tank from your lawnmower gas can to be sure.

2. What kind of plugs did you install?
Platinum plugs?? Hope not; it won't run well but it should still fire.

3. Do you have an electronic ignition?
Check that after the things others already recommended.? ? Checking dizzy cap, plug wires properly oriented, coil wire, ground, etc.

Thanks everyone. Plenty of gas. Car had been sitting for a little while so either it was flooded from trying to start earlier or didn't give it enough gas. After waiting an hour I pumped it twice and it started great.

Was it running strangely before you replaced the plugs and wires?
Sometimes while replacing wires the distributor cap can get tilted or a
holddown clip could pop off (especially in that cramped space behind
   the
window), I've put my plug wires on exactly one socket off for all 8
   wires
so that's worth checking too. THe coil wire is always worth checking
   and
sometimes the power to the coil will fall off if you are using those
   awful
Ford doohickies instead of positive ignition nuts and washers.
   Usual procedure applies:
if it's been down for a while, is it getting fuel? Try a little
   starting
   fluid.
Is it getting spark? You can check this by taking a wilre off a plug
   and
using a used plug to see spark (handy to look back at it through the
   window
if you can position it against the intake manifold).
Is it getting good timing? That's hardest to check but you can see it
   in
the distributor rotor if it turns and set it to spark at #1 at intake
   TDC
to see if it starts. It's a bit of a rabbithole after that but
   completely
   solvable.

   Uh....
At a risk of asking the obvious, did you remove and replace one wire at
a time? If you just pulled all the wires off and threw them on the
ground, it?s a lot tougher to know which new wire goes where.
Is the car snorting and Backfiring? Or is it just cranking over with
nary a peep of ignition? If it?s the latter, I would suspect the coil
wire. Try swapping the old coil wire back and see if that works?

   A couple of questions...
   1. Does it have gas???
If the tank was near empty and it's been sitting for months, you may be
out of gas. Add a gallon to the tank from your lawnmower gas can to be
   sure.
   2. What kind of plugs did you install?
Platinum plugs?? Hope not; it won't run well but it should still fire.
   3. Do you have an electronic ignition?
Check that after the things others already recommended.? ? Checking
dizzy cap, plug wires properly oriented, coil wire, ground, etc.

Thanks everyone. Plenty of gas. Car had been sitting for a little while
so either it was flooded from trying to start earlier or didn't give it
enough gas. After waiting an hour I pumped it twice and it started
   great.
