Is the picture reversed? Also, when racing, juggling with the headlights, does one have to also juggle with the windshield wipers? ---BILL L

Subject: Re: [DeTomaso] What’s weird....

Dear Charlie and Mike,

What is weird is the left headlight is up, but not the
right. This seemingly weird arrangement or malfunction is actually one
of the only known photos of the Snetterton aerodynamic effect used by a
Pantera in competition. In brief, the long forgotten (for good reasons
) paper by Snetterton during the early days of aerodynamics showed that
the asymmetric elevated headlight changed the front downforce to improve
turn in for left turns.

Now, road courses have both left and right turns, so
optimizing the Snetterton effect requires the driver to also manage the
headlight switch, steering wheel, pedals and gear shifter. In practice
the benefits were meager and the complexity was high.

That is why it is not utilized more often. That is why the
picture looks weird.

                     Warmest regards, Chuck Engles
