[DeTomaso] 351C Water Temperature Sensor

The water temp sensor is in the swirl tank as-stock but works better in the block below the thermostat, like every other 351-C has except the DeTomaso Pantera. Tank mounted senders read 15-20 degrees F low on purpose due to Ford/DeTomaso trying to 'fix' the high gauge readings without actually spending much money. Tank mounted sensors also STOP working if the water level in the tank drops a little for any reason. The 0-260-gauge may need the 'factory' sender resistor (see low-money fixes above) to be removed from the wiring harness for better accuracy. Seem the late gauges are calibrated differently than the early gauges using an identical sender. There is a huge amount of info in the archives on this subject which goes back to at least 1973.
Good luck- J Deryke

Subject: [DeTomaso] 351C Water Temperature Sensor
Where is the water temperature sensor typically placed on the 351C, and
is it difficult to get to when the engine is in the Pantera? I recently
had my engine rebuilt, and the shop that put everything back together
after the engine rebuilder had done his job didn't hook up the water
temperature gauge. Obviously, I'd like to remedy that. It's the gauge
that goes from 100 to 280 degrees F, and when the car is running, it
reads less than 100. Any advice is welcome.
Best Regards,
Sean
