[DeTomaso] Happy garage....

This is exactly what happened to me, they successively went through the garage doors until they found one that they could hammer a wedge in far enough and grab the emergency release cord. Fortunately we had a motion detector in the garage while we were waiting for alarm contacts on the doors to be installed, so they took off when the alarm went off.

I zip tied all the release cords after that (and also invested in one of the security camera systems) as we were in Canada working a lot. I have subsequently changed to the jackshaft style openers to provide more head room, but many of the modern openers like these include an automatic power lock when the door closes.

I found it no coincidence the break ins were a matter of a week or two after we moved in and our old house across town was also broken into! I have moved a lot and nearly every time the US moving companies are using labor off the street, one time my wife overheard two of the guys packing our valuables comparing their recent prison terms!

Nothing I like better then a happy and safe garage (HSG).

I noticed on your garage door opener you still have the stock emergency
handle on the rope. I hope everyone knows that a slim jim can be used to
open the door by gabbing the rope.

I removed the handle and knot at the end so it cannot be grabbed. I also
have used a very small zip tie to hold the lever up. It is so small that I
can break it by pulling hard.

Yes Mike I am sure you have military grade pad locks on the tracks, but not
everyone may.

Nice day in California, just handling little details like bolting up
driveshafts, speedo cable, shift linkage etc. sometimes you just gotta step
back and admire the view (chaos though it might be...)
