If your mechanic feels compelled to remove the diff to safety wire, there is a way to accomplish the task without removing the carrier bearings. The trick is to remove the 8 or 10 allen bolts that hold the assembly together. Then the two halves will come out the bottom.

Those 5mm allen heads can be a real bear to get out. Use a very high quality 5mm allen tool. Else the tool will rotate in the bolt head. Fortunately when that happens, you can drill off the head and the threaded portion is easily removed.

It is helpful to have a good allen and extra allen bolts going into this project.

Hello,

My mechanic tells me that he needs a extractor tool for the carrier
bearings in the diff in order to do the safety wiring on the bolts.

Where could I borrow/rent/buy one ?

Thanks,

Konrad
