[DeTomaso] My Speedometer Cable Challenges.....continued

Mike,

Send me your address and I will beam the inner cable to you, cost $30 plus shipping.

I’m missing Monterey for the first time ever (since 1991?) as I’m lying on the couch recovering from surgery. I popped a hernia at Oshkosh last month and had repair surgery on the 9th. It didn’t seem to go well, and they opened me up again Thursday for a look-see. Turns out the repairs had held but they had missed a small hot-dog-sized lipoma (non cancer tumor) that had been lurking in a dark corner. The hernia repair prevented its previous free travel throughout the neighborhood, which caused discomfort. Now that is removed and recovery starts all over again....

I thought someone else had recently had the same problem and posted pics of how the vendor inner cable was shorter than the stock inner cable past the collar.

When the speedo did work well with vendor B’s cable it was due to no collar on that side limiting the depth of engagement of the inner cable to the speedo.

   Mike,

Send me your address and I will beam the inner cable to you, cost $30
   plus shipping.

I'm missing Monterey for the first time ever (since 1991?) as I'm lying
on the couch recovering from surgery. I popped a hernia at Oshkosh last
month and had repair surgery on the 9th. It didn't seem to go well, and
they opened me up again Thursday for a look-see. Turns out the repairs
had held but they had missed a small hot-dog-sized lipoma (non cancer
tumor) that had been lurking in a dark corner. The hernia repair
prevented its previous free travel throughout the neighborhood, which
caused discomfort. Now that is removed and recovery starts all over
   again....

Hi Mike. Thanks for the quick reply. My responses below:

    1. Speedo is fine as I can hook up vendor B's cable (the one with the
collar side not on the speedo) and hook up a drill to the cable on
the ZF side and the needle is smooth as butter
    2. I keep all parts but somehow this got tossed by error in a recent
       garage cleaning : (
    3. I'll happily buy the NOS Ford speedo inner cable from you as I
think the vendor version is too short for my car for some reason.
I can then use Vendor A's outer sheath. Thanks!!! I'll also
measure them side by side to see if there's a difference and report
back to the list. I thought someone else had recently had the same
problem and posted pics of how the vendor inner cable was shorter
than the stock inner cable past the collar.
    4. Routing wasn't an issue as I even tested it completely out of the
car and hooked up only to the speedo. It was super straight but
still had bad needle flutter when I used the drill on the opposite
side to test it : ( So I think it's not long enough from the inner
cable collar location to the speedo. When the speedo did work well
with vendor B's cable it was due to no collar on that side limiting
the depth of engagement of the inner cable to the speedo.

Odd, I agree. I've installed cables before on a Pantera and had no
issues with getting them to work quickly.

Thanks and hope you are enjoying Monterey! Surprised you had time to
respond to Pantera list mails : ) Mike

   Mike,
   1) I've never heard of anybody having this problem EXCEPT for one guy
that actually had a bad speedo. Would you like to borrow a spare speedo
to confirm that your cable problem is actually a cable problem?
   2) Who throws away Pantera parts??? Even `bad' parts have value, for
   reference if nothing else.
   3) I also have NOS Ford speedo inner cable available if you think your
vendor sheath is good but cable is too short?
   4) Personally I suspect your issue with Vendor A cable is just down to
   routing.....
   Let me know.....
