Dear Mike and Dave,

I can also recommend Dave McLain in Cuba, Missouri. He did
some intake manifold testing for me and was very pleasant and easy to
work with. He is very knowledgeable about Cleveland engines. Mike's
anecdote about local vs specialist is also a common sad tale.
Clevelands ain't Chevy small blocks and shops that don't see Clevelands
treat them as a SBC or SBF and that leads to trouble.

To digress to the surprising fact that major metropolitan
areas (Houston, Bay Area, etc ) don't have readily available machine
shops or engine builders that understand the Cleveland engine: it is a
paradox that with large populations there is a dearth of Cleveland
expertise. The Houston guys send their engines to a shop in Arkansas.
My brother in Houston sent his to my favorite shop here in Oklahoma City
where I am blessed with having close proximity to an excellent
machinist, engine builder and friend. I think Dan Jones in St. Louis
patronizes Dave McLain in Cuba, Missouri.

                       Warmest regards, Chuck Engles
