[DeTomaso] Fun Rally Itinerary

Hey Les and others,

I was not present at this year's Fun Rally either. My comments are based on many years of experience with POCA and attending numerous Fun Rallies over the years. My experience is also based on my chapter producing a POCA Fun Rally in San Diego where a host of poor treatment towards my chapter members and others continued the norm. I'm very glad that things seem to be changing and I'm ecstatic about the use of guest passes so that members can attend and learn of the existence of POCA rather than being turned away solely because the open bar was protected as if it was the Holy Grail.

When we held our Fun Rally, we asked if it was our responsibility to post a guard at the hospitality suite to check for buttons. We were told that was POCA's responsibility. Then POCA did not arrange for a guard and we caught hell because the total bar tab for the event was stratospheric. We had a member ask beforehand if he could show his car at our Embarcadero show on the grass if he paid for a single day's registration. After being told that was approved, he had his judging placard removed from his car and told that approval had been reversed by POCA. That was a sad day in the life of POCA's numerous poor and inflamatory decisions.

My statements in my email today was a fraction of the reports posted on this forum regarding POCA's poor treatment of members for many years. Also, you are exactly correct in that these policies have been enforced since the Snyder's ran the first rally. Unfortunately it seems as if it's taken this many rallies to come up with guest badges and make people more welcome to the rally rather than sending them on their way because of the protection of free cocktails. Just because these policies have been enforced for the history of the rally DOESN'T mean they were good policies.

You've been around forever Les so you obviously have heard the numerous complaints. You must also be very happy that things have recently changed for the better. I very much honor and appreciate your service to our National Organization and your multi-year service as its President. Where I have not had the luxury of donating enough time to serve on the board, I HAVE taken the time to comment on this forum to reveal problems with past policies and make heartfelt and constructive suggestions for future events. Perhaps mine and other's comments have served to bring these recent good changes to fruition. If 'my' comments are seen as 'inflamatory', if the shoe fits....

You are correct, I was not at this years event.

My comment was based on my and a friend's experience at the Houston
   event.

At that time, and the subsequent Vegas afin Rally - there were no
provisions for guest passes, and no convenient way to bring an
interested individual to see the "glamour cars" in the hospitality
   center.

We were shown the door by Bob Reed himself

I am sure that he thought I was trying to "sneak" my buddy in to steal
free drinks - but that was not the case. That was the furthest thing
   from my mind

If the policies have changed in the last two years - I was unaware of
   it, and stand corrected.

To Chuck Huber and all. Chuck, were you even here?
I never saw you. If you were here why did you not call Kevin Hubby
your chapter President who WAS here.
It has always been Fun Rally procedure to ask anybody who does not
have a button to leave the room. This may be the case here. This
policy has been in effect FROM THE BEGINNING of the Rally hosted by
     the Snyders.
I do know that we actually had "guest" badges available ( at NO
CHARGE ) to anyone who wanted to come in to look around and ask
questions, and we had several people take advantage of this.
Chuck, I'm trying to understand where your info is coming from?
And Mr. Smith, once again you jump to conclusions and make highly
     inflammatory statements and create
     a falsehood.
I just spoke to the only person who ran the Suite entry table and
absolutely no one was turned away. That is why we had free guest
badges for folks who wanted to take a peek. And actually this was
the first time a guest badge scenario has happened.
I am the most restrained person you've ever met but I am just sick
of this continuing assault on POCA. Either get off your butt and get
involved in running this club and make positive changes, or shut the
hell up and quit stirring the pot.
If ANY of you have the stones to call me I'll be glad to have a
civil discussion with you at ANY time.
If I sound like I'm pissed off, I truly am. If you've got a
legitimate issue and not some second or third hand he said, she
said, then pleas fact check your information.
Also why is it that all of these outbursts are based on anonymous
people. Give me a name of the person who allegedly wronged and I
would gladly call them to sort this out. Simple, give me a name,
contact info ? Anyone........? Bueler? Bueler ?..........
     I thought so.
For clarity here, all of the above sentiment expressed are
completely mine and mine alone. They do not reflect the POCA Boards
     sentiments in any way.
I'm only a temporary BOD member about to time out so if you wish to
thunder on me please do so. Contact me directly if you so wish.
     Best regards,
     Leslie A. Gray

Yeah - go to something that is going on outside of the Fun Rally

If you try to bring someone inside the "Fun Rally" venue, even if
it's for 20-30 minutes, even if the guest may have a genuine
interest in the cars, even if they may be interested in considering
buying one - they will get the "stink-eye". They may even be
accosted by one of the Fun Rally organizers, and asked
(unceremoniously) to leave - even if they are trying to be escorted
     in by a paying member.

I have a good friend that lives in Las Vegas - close to the "M" - I
would like to have him look at some Panteras - he has ridden in
mine. When, in your opinion, would be the best time for him to see
the most Panteras at one time. In San Diego, for example, I would
have told someone to go to the "lawn" near the water to see the most
     cars as possible.
     Thanks,
