[DeTomaso] FW: 3rd gear?

Since your 2-4 alignment is off I think it is probably a linkage alignment problem. I’d check the linkage everywhere I can then align it in the usual manner.

No experience, just thinking of how linkage works....

If the linkage has loose play, I would expect the shifter lever is hitting the gate and not pushing the transaxle rod far enough.

I have never gotten the values for the Pantera's ZF shifter throws but I have barely legable notes that shows 3rd needs the farthest throw

Not sure how relevant it may be to the ZF, but I had a 280Z back in 1979 that I went to shift into 5th and the gear was gone. I was on a trip back home about 2 hours out when the gear just disappeared. I shifted into 4th and everything was fine and drove it home.

I took it into the dealer the next day and they told me a nut had backed off and caused the gear to get misaligned. No damage was done to the tranny.

That is what I hope also. Has anybody lost a gear before where it
freely goes into gear but the gear is just not there?

for

Iean
A not even there anymore. There is a very slight grind resistance half
A way through the shift gate into 3rd, but nothing major. 4th gear
A occasionally puts tranny in 2nd instead which did not happen before,
A but all other gears seem to be aligned as usual.A
