If you added the friction modifiers you made the Redline more slippery. Which makes the synchros not work as well
Don't add those modifiers to GL-4 oil

I currently use Castrol Syntrans 75W-90 GL-4+.
It is specified for VW transaxles and I needed it when replacing the
transmission in one of my son's golf, and when I saw it was a GL-4+
oil, I bought a 20 liter container, thinking it would be great also for
the ZF.
I've used Shell Getriebeoel 75W-90 fully synthetic, and also Mobil 1
SHC synthetic, and before switching to this Castrol oil I used Redline,
with a bottle of the recommended friction modifiers.
Can't say I notice much difference between the oils. I think shifting
was hardest with the Redline oil.
