Replacing the window switches, motor gears and motors are all good worthwhile projects, but be sure it's not another culprit first.  The wiring!

I had intermittent problems with the driver's window and tried new Bosch switches with no success.  When I ran a jumper wire from the switch to the window motor I found that the windows went up and down just fine with no issues at all.  It turns out the problem was with the original wiring to the window motor.  45 years and 110,000 miles of the driver's door being opened and closed had work hardened and broken many strands of the original power wire to the motor that I was getting insufficient current to power the motor.  

Pulling a new wire from the switch to the window motor solved my problems.
