[DeTomaso] window motor replacement suggestions

Mike and Larry - re-read the description of the problem. The window needed a little help to start lifting, and then closed. This implies that the switch and gear are fine, but the motor is tired, or the alignment is off and it has to work too hard, or...

Anyway, doesn't sound like swapping the switch or gear will solve his problem - sounds like either a more powerful motor or playing with the alignment of the tracks (which is a pain) could help

Cliff,

Larry is right, sort of, but he wants you to work way too hard to troubleshoot the problem.

Any time you actuate the windows with the key on but engine not running, the ammeter will deflect when you actuate the switch.

So, if you hit the switch and the window doesn't move and the ammeter doesn't deflect, you have a switch or wiring problem. If you have the stock switches, they are junk and should be replaced with similar-looking quality Bosch switches.

If the ammeter does deflect, you don't have an electrical problem, the issue is mechanical. If you have the stock plastic gear, likely it's broken.
