[DeTomaso] Bay Area Guys!: Tubing bender for water pipes 1-3/8" ?????

Not sure what you're asking, and couldn't find the original post, but:
Looking inside thin-wall tube like exhaust pipe or metal water pipes, sometimes/usually I can see where a mandrel dragged along inside the pipe making scratches during the bending process. I've come to understand with the thinner wall tube a mandrel inside is necessary otherwise the tube collapses.  Used to be "mandrel bent" meant "bent with an inside mandrel" but today has lost its meaning.
I tried Proto-Pipe on Lincoln but the guy promptly squashed the last of my 1.5 tube stash ( expensive, came from Tube Service in Milpitas ) and said "well, after 5 or 6 I could get this set up to not collapse the tube". This was using an inside mandrel, just not positioned exactly where it needed to be. Expect PP is long gone now.
Next ( bought more tube ) I tried a guy near the OSH near Bird, he did a much better job and honestly I don't remember if he used a mandrel or not. I do remember getting a parking ticket, and that whole block is project housing now anyway.
But ... going into any shop and asking for a 90 bend to be changed by one or two degrees ... that's not going to be me.  Heat + bending a little ?
The old Tech Shop location in San Jose ( across the street from Camera 3 ) had a Hossfeld or a Hossfeld type bender, I reckon they just moved it to their new location.

Steve,

Since it appears to be defective it is not YOUR responsibility to fix it!!!!

Normally these things exit the block and turn to run just about parallel to the valve cover. If yours isn't doing that, see about exchanging it.

There was once a bad batch of headers that looked fine to the naked eye, but if installed the collector would be in the middle of the chassis rail. Stuff happens.....
