[DeTomaso] DeTomaso Digest, Vol 153, Issue 28

That is a great question; Mike Drew is an authority on the various designs of Campi wheels that were produced through the years, he had put all that down on paper in a neat article , I believe it was in one of the PCNC newsletters. It was surprising how many variants of wheels were produced and how many owners appeared to have mismatched sets when he started inspecting more closely. The Euro GTS differed in many aspect to the US GTS and I seem to recall reading not all the GTS's came with the 10" rear wheels?

Physically you can move the 8's to the front, however I suspect the answer to whether they match the 10's available wholly depends what variant of wheels you currently have and whether the 'slots' match the pattern of the 10" wheels that are on offer.

Julian

While on the topic, are the rear 8 inchers on the Pantera (not GTS) the
same as the front 8 inchers on the GTS? I'm considering moving my 8
inchers on my 72 Panty (non GTS) to the front and start looking for 10
   inchers.

Steve is doing two of them. Both with Ford crate motors purchased
new. Someone could buy a used engine and transmission from
X2Builders last I heard. Few years back they were getting around
$25K for both. Don't know if that included all the accessories, and
     wiring.

If those things still use the gigantic Ricardo 6-speed transaxle,
good luck using THAT thing! Someone mentioned that Steve rigged one
in a Pantera with a Ford GT engine some years ago and it was too
wide, too long and too heavy to easily fit. He said 'never again!'

     Hi All.
New to the list, so apologies if this is an improper use of the
     list.
Just bought a 1973 Pantera that is pretty much totally stock.
Want to keep the look but prefer the slight change in look of the 8"
     X !5"
front and 10" X 15 rear wheels instead of the 7x15/8x15 - but need
     the
     10x15's
Understand Marvic in Italy makes as new magnesium and Roin also in
     Italy
     makes aluminum copies.
Want to exhaust my search for used original 10" X 15" Campanolo GTS
     wheels
     before I go to aftermarket.
Please let me know if you have 1 or 2 or know of any.
     Thanks.

William this is exactly the place for your inquiry. Genuine vintage
10 inch Campagnolo wheels have become very prized and when they do
pop up for sale are quite costly. In my opinion the two 15 inch
options in addition to the 17 and 18 replica options are a great
alternative and do have the advantage of being of newer materials
with more modern manufacturing processes. Best of luck with your
     quest. Cheers Paul

So every one can start hating on me now and pointing their finger at
me and call me hypocrite but I don't get the swap. I goofed around
with an all aluminum 302 for awhile and drove a guy's Cobra sourced
5.4 over in Bend a couple of times and the original Cleveland is
just soo much fun and looks totally cool and correct in the car in
     the first place.

I can not help you with your quest for a rear badge other that to
reach out to our vendors. Hopefully you will share more pictures.
     The car looks just beautiful

I chose it for the wide power band, the ability to be modified to
over 1000 HP without changing the internals, reliability,
specifically engineered for a 200+ mph mid-engine car, and the
rarity. Having said that, if I had to make the choice today I would
go with a Roush injected small block Ford engine . Priorities change
     over time. :)

William - since you are looking for opinions here's one more...
I agree that the original Campy look is really special, and the 10"
     rears
look great. If it were my car, I'd go with Marvic reproductions -
     identical
to the originals, the same lightweight material (magnesium) as the
originals, and new. Don't see the downside to this solution, and it
     may even
be cheaper than buying 30 year old originals

     Hi All.
New to the list, so apologies if this is an improper use of the

Does Marvic make 8" reproductions as well? It would be nice to have
a matched set of new wheels if going the route. If no which style 8"
campi's were used on cars originally equipped with the 8" 10" combo?

     Hi Gray.
     Yes, Marvic makes 15x8s.
Attached is response from Marvic. Silvia speaks English and is very
     helpful.
Marvic wheels seem to be top quality and are magnesium = lighter
     than the
aluminum alternatives. All of which comes at a cost. As you can see
     in the
attached , the set of 4 wheels cost 5800 euros, before VAT and
     shipping etc.
Another respondent had talked through all the adds and said the all
     in cost
     > $7000.
Silvia said delivery would be about six weeks. She suggested I talk
     to
Yoyodyne, Marvic' s NJ distributor (of cycle equipment). I did. They
     said
they could save me money ordering through them (wheels price the
     same) but
would combine shipping with his supplies. I mentioned the 6 week
     delivery
and he laughed. He said those are "Italian weeks" and not
     necessarily
     consecutive weeks at that.

Marvic does advertise new 8-inch wheels. But I would never pay $1800
each for one when originals can be had all day long for $100-200.
The Marvic 10-inch wheels are a great thing, but they don't match
     the originals perfectly.

Yes, per their website Marvic make the 8x15's magnesium as well as
two designs of 10's, 'long' and 'short' rib, for those that would
want a 'matched' set of new wheels.
     [55]http://marvic.it/en/prodotto/pantera-gts/
     There was some recent similar discussion n the PI forum;;
Pricing per unit, without VAT, ex-works for 10" x 15" (either
version) is ? 1,550 delivery ~ 6 weeks with 40% down at order,
balance on shipment. Marvic would supply the wheels through a dealer
located in New Jersey. That price is better than the $4K+ that used
pairs of 10" wheels have been selling for recently, without the
risks associated with 40 year old magnesium wheels.

Mr Fiat carries the Roin aluminum wheels at inflated prices ($1,405
for a 10"), latest quote (a week ago) direct from Roin was ?850 for
     the 10" and ?750 for the 8".
Roin also offer a visually correct 17" dia. in 11" and 9" widths to
suit more modern rubber availability, whereas many of the
reproducyion campi's are not visually close to original.

     Hi Gray.
     Yes, Marvic makes 15x8s.
Attached is response from Marvic. Silvia speaks English and is very
     helpful.
Marvic wheels seem to be top quality and are magnesium = lighter
     than the
aluminum alternatives. All of which comes at a cost. As you can see
     in the
attached , the set of 4 wheels cost 5800 euros, before VAT and
     shipping etc.
Another respondent had talked through all the adds and said the all
     in cost
     > $7000.
Silvia said delivery would be about six weeks. She suggested I talk
     to
Yoyodyne, Marvic' s NJ distributor (of cycle equipment). I did. They
     said
they could save me money ordering through them (wheels price the
     same) but
would combine shipping with his supplies. I mentioned the 6 week
     delivery
and he laughed. He said those are "Italian weeks" and not
     necessarily
     consecutive weeks at that.

I agree that the original Campy look is really special, and the 10"

     Thanks.

     Hi Gray.
     Yes, Marvic makes 15x8s.
Attached is response from Marvic. Silvia speaks English and is very
     helpful.
Marvic wheels seem to be top quality and are magnesium = lighter
     than
     the
aluminum alternatives. All of which comes at a cost. As you can see
     in
     the
attached , the set of 4 wheels cost 5800 euros, before VAT and
     shipping
     etc.
Another respondent had talked through all the adds and said the all
     in
     cost
     > $7000.
Silvia said delivery would be about six weeks. She suggested I talk
     to
Yoyodyne, Marvic' s NJ distributor (of cycle equipment). I did. They
     said
they could save me money ordering through them (wheels price the
     same)
     but
would combine shipping with his supplies. I mentioned the 6 week
     delivery
and he laughed. He said those are "Italian weeks" and not
     necessarily
     consecutive weeks at that.

Does Marvic make 8" reproductions as well? It would be nice to have
     a
matched set of new wheels if going the route. If no which style 8"
     campi's
were used on cars originally equipped with the 8" 10" combo?

William - since you are looking for opinions here's one more...
I agree that the original Campy look is really special, and the 10"
     rears
look great. If it were my car, I'd go with Marvic reproductions -
     identical
to the originals, the same lightweight material (magnesium) as the
originals, and new. Don't see the downside to this solution, and it
     may
     even
be cheaper than buying 30 year old originals

That is a great question; Mike Drew is an authority on the various
designs of Campi wheels that were produced through the years, he had
put all that down on paper in a neat article , I believe it was in one
of the PCNC newsletters. It was surprising how many variants of
wheels were produced and how many owners appeared to have mismatched
sets when he started inspecting more closely. The Euro GTS differed in
many aspect to the US GTS and I seem to recall reading not all the
GTS's came with the 10" rear wheels?

Physically you can move the 8's to the front, however I suspect the
answer to whether they match the 10's available wholly depends what
variant of wheels you currently have and whether the 'slots' match the
pattern of the 10" wheels that are on offer.

While on the topic, are the rear 8 inchers on the Pantera (not GTS)
   the
same as the front 8 inchers on the GTS? I'm considering moving my 8
inchers on my 72 Panty (non GTS) to the front and start looking for
   10
      inchers.

Steve is doing two of them. Both with Ford crate motors purchased
new. Someone could buy a used engine and transmission from
X2Builders last I heard. Few years back they were getting around
$25K for both. Don't know if that included all the accessories,
   and
        wiring.

If those things still use the gigantic Ricardo 6-speed transaxle,
good luck using THAT thing! Someone mentioned that Steve rigged
   one
in a Pantera with a Ford GT engine some years ago and it was too
wide, too long and too heavy to easily fit. He said 'never again!'

Steve is doing two of them. Both with Ford crate motors purchased
new. Someone could buy a used engine and transmission from
X2Builders last I heard. Few years back they were getting around
$25K for both. Don't know if that included all the accessories,
   and
        wiring.

I believe there was one being done down here in Dallas as well.
   The
        trans
stuck out so far they had to totally re-engineer the rear of the
        car. The
guy was in love with paddle shifters!

        Hi All.
New to the list, so apologies if this is an improper use of the
        list.
Just bought a 1973 Pantera that is pretty much totally stock.
Want to keep the look but prefer the slight change in look of the
   8"
        X !5"
front and 10" X 15 rear wheels instead of the 7x15/8x15 - but need
        the
        10x15's
Understand Marvic in Italy makes as new magnesium and Roin also in
        Italy
        makes aluminum copies.
Want to exhaust my search for used original 10" X 15" Campanolo
   GTS
        wheels
        before I go to aftermarket.
Please let me know if you have 1 or 2 or know of any.
        Thanks.

William this is exactly the place for your inquiry. Genuine
   vintage
10 inch Campagnolo wheels have become very prized and when they do
pop up for sale are quite costly. In my opinion the two 15 inch
options in addition to the 17 and 18 replica options are a great
alternative and do have the advantage of being of newer materials
with more modern manufacturing processes. Best of luck with your
        quest. Cheers Paul

So every one can start hating on me now and pointing their finger
   at
me and call me hypocrite but I don't get the swap. I goofed around
with an all aluminum 302 for awhile and drove a guy's Cobra
   sourced
5.4 over in Bend a couple of times and the original Cleveland is
just soo much fun and looks totally cool and correct in the car in
        the first place.

I can not help you with your quest for a rear badge other that to
reach out to our vendors. Hopefully you will share more pictures.
        The car looks just beautiful

I chose it for the wide power band, the ability to be modified to
over 1000 HP without changing the internals, reliability,
specifically engineered for a 200+ mph mid-engine car, and the
rarity. Having said that, if I had to make the choice today I
   would
go with a Roush injected small block Ford engine . Priorities
   change
        over time. :)

Cleveland is just soo much fun and looks totally cool and correct
   in
the car in the first place.

William - since you are looking for opinions here's one more...
I agree that the original Campy look is really special, and the
   10"
        rears
look great. If it were my car, I'd go with Marvic reproductions -
        identical
to the originals, the same lightweight material (magnesium) as the
originals, and new. Don't see the downside to this solution, and
   it
        may even
be cheaper than buying 30 year old originals

        Hi All.
New to the list, so apologies if this is an improper use of the

Does Marvic make 8" reproductions as well? It would be nice to
   have

        Hi Gray.
        Yes, Marvic makes 15x8s.
Attached is response from Marvic. Silvia speaks English and is
   very
        helpful.
Marvic wheels seem to be top quality and are magnesium = lighter
        than the
aluminum alternatives. All of which comes at a cost. As you can
   see
        in the
attached , the set of 4 wheels cost 5800 euros, before VAT and
        shipping etc.
Another respondent had talked through all the adds and said the
   all
        in cost
        > $7000.
Silvia said delivery would be about six weeks. She suggested I
   talk
        to
Yoyodyne, Marvic' s NJ distributor (of cycle equipment). I did.
   They
        said
they could save me money ordering through them (wheels price the
        same) but
would combine shipping with his supplies. I mentioned the 6 week
        delivery
and he laughed. He said those are "Italian weeks" and not
        necessarily
        consecutive weeks at that.

        Hi All.
New to the list, so apologies if this is an improper use of the

Marvic does advertise new 8-inch wheels. But I would never pay
   $1800
each for one when originals can be had all day long for $100-200.

        There was some recent similar discussion n the PI forum;;
Pricing per unit, without VAT, ex-works for 10" x 15" (either
version) is ? 1,550 delivery ~ 6 weeks with 40% down at order,
balance on shipment. Marvic would supply the wheels through a
   dealer
located in New Jersey. That price is better than the $4K+ that
   used
pairs of 10" wheels have been selling for recently, without the
risks associated with 40 year old magnesium wheels.

I agree that the original Campy look is really special, and the
   10"
rears look great. If it were my car, I'd go with Marvic
        reproductions -
identical to the originals, the same lightweight material
        (magnesium)
as the originals, and new. Don't see the downside to this
   solution,
        and
it may even be cheaper than buying 30 year old originals

New to the list, so apologies if this is an improper use of the

Just bought a 1973 Pantera that is pretty much totally stock.
Want to keep the look but prefer the slight change in look of the
   8"

        !5"
front and 10" X 15 rear wheels instead of the 7x15/8x15 - but need

        Hi Gray.
        Yes, Marvic makes 15x8s.
Attached is response from Marvic. Silvia speaks English and is
   very
        helpful.
Marvic wheels seem to be top quality and are magnesium = lighter
        than the
aluminum alternatives. All of which comes at a cost. As you can
   see
        in the
attached , the set of 4 wheels cost 5800 euros, before VAT and
        shipping etc.
Another respondent had talked through all the adds and said the
   all
        in cost
        > $7000.
Silvia said delivery would be about six weeks. She suggested I
   talk
        to
Yoyodyne, Marvic' s NJ distributor (of cycle equipment). I did.
   They
        said
they could save me money ordering through them (wheels price the
        same) but
would combine shipping with his supplies. I mentioned the 6 week
        delivery
and he laughed. He said those are "Italian weeks" and not
        necessarily
        consecutive weeks at that.
