[DeTomaso] !0 X15 Campi Wheels

The Marvic wheels are fabricated in a traditional sand cast fashion as I understand, the molds wear with each successive casting so in Mike's analogy even twin brothers have discernible differences! It's not quite as easy as taking a series of laser measurements from an original wheel (and even then the oem wheels will differ for the above reasons) and throwing the results into a CNC program.

I believe this is part of the challenge that Cesare Magistrali faced when he acquired 'original' Group 4 wheels molds that were for the most part unusable.

Ed,

There are numerous detail differences. Asking me to describe them is like asking me to describe why a person doesn't look identical to his younger brother. There are obvious familial resemblances, but numerous detail differences. They aren't bad, just different.

I confess to being a bit disappointed when I saw them in person. The owner of Marvic was standing there and I mad a gentle inquiry. As a layman, I figured if somebody was going to go to the tremendous effort to replicate something, why not make it perfect instead of just close?

He shrugged and more or less said he did the best he could, but somehow there was something in his manufacturing process preventing him from making it an exact copy.

These wheels look great, and if they were on a car likely nobody would know the difference. But if one was viewed side-by-side with an original, the differences would be apparent.

Like looking at a guy next to his younger brother....
