[DeTomaso] Garage floor options...

Larry,
When I first searched, I thought I saw them for about 50 cents each. I
guess I must have been looking at the wrong thing. It does appear that the
prices have gone up, imagine that ;)

I recall paying about 33 cents per tile when we did mine. Now, the white
tile is 70 cents and the black tile is $1.14 ! See links below for Home
Depot. I may have also gotten a better price at the time, through my
brother-in-law, who is a flooring guy.

For the shine, I used standard off the shelf polish and "wet look" floor
finishing material from "DEP". Picked it up at home depot. Easy to apply
with a mop. I never had the luxury of having a floor polisher, so I don't
have the perfect deep shine you see sometimes in department stores. But I'm
on the lookout for a commercial floor polisher at swap meets and garage
sales.

Over time, you will pick up scuffs, dirt, stains, etc., but a thorough
scrubbing (and I mean thorough!) with floor stripper brings the floors back
to their original clean (but dull) finish. I put on some old shoes, poured
the stripper on the floor and with garden hose and a stiff bristle brush on
a broomstick, I scrubbed the !@#@$#$@# out of it. It was quite a workout.
But it looked great again. Then you re-cover with wet look polish and
you're good to go for a few more years.

I also use aluminum diamond plate pads where the tires sit. Without that,
you're more likely to loosen a tile by parking a hot tire directly on the
tile.

Hi Mike,

I have a black and white floor project for this year and have found the
pricing around $1.oo per tile. Do you have a source that sells it for
pennies?

They all seam to be an un-waxed produce. Will you please tell us about how
and what you use to wax the tile?

Installed VCT back in 2005. Looks great and the stuff is tough as nails.
Here's an original pic and the current state. When I occasionally damage a
tile, you just apply a little heat, scrape out the bad tile and pop a new
one in. You don't even have to add glue, because it remains tacky (maybe
the heat causes that). Best of all, it's only pennies per tile. When I did
the floor originally, I bought 2 extra boxes and I still have most of those.
