[DeTomaso] Stoptech brake rotor update

Guys,

I mentioned back in January that Stoptech makes bolt-on vented front rotors
that fit the Pantera perfectly; subsequently people had problems because
the more current offerings were a cheaper, hub-and-rotor combo. I've been
working with them to rectify the situation.

Today they told me they are 10 days or two weeks out from having exactly
what we need--bolt-on replacements for the stock front discs, made of a
premium iron, cyrogenically heat-treated, and slotted. They will create them
with a new, unique part number to differentiate them from the Mustang offerings
(although these discs are originally intended for 1965-67 Mustangs, Falcons
etc. and therefore will continue to work in that application).

Based on expected demand, he is having 20 sets (40 rotors, left and right
side) made. He hasn't yet figured out how they will be retailed, because
Stoptech doesn't actually have a retail arm. He said they wouldn't be
offering them through a big-box place like Summit, Tire Rack etc. due to the
perceived low demand, but he will probably pick one of his retailers and just
ship them all there. Or alternately, we may do what we did last time, and I
will just buy all of them and resell them.

More to follow, but if you have been trying to find them elsewhere, don't
bother. One poor fellow has tried two or three times to get them from other
sources, using the part numbers I had supplied (which worked fine for me).
Those sources all insisted that he would be getting the right parts, but
surprise, no! So he has had to return them each time since what they were
selling isn't suitable for Pantera use.

Hopefully we will have an answer to the 'how do I buy them?' question in a
couple of weeks. The price should be very nice--probably on the order of
$130-140 each or so?

I still need to see about getting larger-diameter rear rotors made. One
step at a time though....
