[DeTomaso] Back Fire

Look for an air leak somewhere in the intake system, or a loose carb stud. Occasionally, an exhaust leak will suck back enough air to fire a rich mixture in the pipes. The ideal  ignition timing depends on how the engine was build- cam etc, but for near-stock, around 12 degrees BTDC static with the total of static, centrifugal and vac advance not to exceed 34-35 degrees. Good luck- J Deryke

I have a periodic backfire when shifting. Can anyone suggest what to
check? What is the proper timing setting for a 73 351-C.

Thanks,

DJ
