[DeTomaso] Oil Additives

Numerous tests including a couple reprinted in your Newsletter in years past tell of the many problems associated with trying to blend your own hi-po oil at a bargain price. Invariably, adding stuff degrades the balance of ingredients that was in the original oil and you wind up with something less than what you started with. NOT recommended. Second note- higher amounts of ZDDP does NOT increase wear protection in a given oil, partly because of the degradation of the oil's original properties if you add some and partly because its not the sheer quantity of ZDDP alone that gives wear protection. Very complex subject best left to oil chemists.

I am thinking of getting 10w40 oil for my Pantera and buying separately
a ZDDP additive. This appears to cost less than oil with ZDDP already
included... and it is available locally.
Has anyone tried this approach? and how well do you think it worked for you.
Thanks
Roydon
