do you have hydraulic cam lifters ?

i had oil starvation due to hard braking and cornering and the cam 
followers make a big noise

i fitted a racing oil pan to cure the problem but then rolled the car 
over to treat the underside for rust etc and had it on its side with the 
engine still in for months

After that a couple of cam followers didnt fill and rattles badly

i tried different oil and eventually got rid of it  not knowing exactly 
what fixed it

so i think the hydraulic cam followers can act up when starved of oil 
and they can be hard to set right again
