[DeTomaso] Pantera Rear Axle

I have heard of owners who discovered their Pantera had two left or two right axles. Note: They were not experiencing any problems due to this situation.

There is nothing different between the two axles other than the right hand versus left hand thread for the nuts.

This was done because in theory this approach will minimize either nut from loosening during use.

Dodge/Plymouth at one time (maybe they still do?) used left-hand and right-hand threads for the wheel studs. I learned that little fact the hard way, but thankfully the two wheel studs I snapped off were not on my car. :-|

Again, this is technically designed to minimize the nuts from loosening, but have you ever heard of a non-Dodge car suffering from chronic loosening of wheel nuts?

Considering the very high torque used to install the axle nuts, I really think you could safely use the spare axle you have.

I am sure others will chime in with their opinions. Ultimately, the choice will be yours.

Good luck.
