[DeTomaso] How much "Play" is Normal In Rear Drive

I had my car jacked up last hight (both rear wheels off the ground).

Rear bearings are tight (no lateral, or axial play in the wheels that would
come from bad bearings.

But if I have the car in gear (and I can't recall what gear), I can rotate
one wheel about 1" before the "slack" in the drive is taken up, and the
other wheels starts to move. Is this normal?

I haven't looked closely enough (yet) to see if there is play in the shaft
(Spicer) or if it's all in the gearbox.

I'm probably worrying about a problem I don't have.

Thanks -

Chuck
