[DeTomaso] Techno question: Rear Jack Plate

The obvious mounting area for a jack plate is so often distorted from less than careful jacking in the past, I'd suppose the best method of attachment may vary depending on the condition of that spot on your car. 
Mine is certainly not perfect. 
I use a block of wood on the jack pad because of its ability to crush a little and spread out the load.
