<< Just an abstract thought>>

Oh someone call me??

I have used a large flat end tap by first putting in a big ball bearing
(BBB) in, then start the tap. The tap will bottom out on the ball bearing
and pull out the ring as it cuts the threads. This will not work so well if
the ring is harden steel

Just an abstract thought I had....
Could the bushing ID be tapped, a plug made to fit, then a Hydraulic Hand
Pump be used to force it off. Thus no pounding on the crack

...I'd have a smooth entry for a socket or other to try the grease/wet
tissue/string cheese and a hammer. Yes, I had one guy at a local shop said
he used string cheese . . .

I too became very nervous pounding on the end of the crank like you have
done.
