[DeTomaso] Mecum Kissimmee

So if that's $105K less seller fees, he's under water.

I watched some of Mecum last night and saw the no photo S73.1 lot Pantera cross the block, it was a good looking restomod with a 5.0 Cobra motor and reached $100K, no sale.

I have yet to figure out what drives the stock vs. customized equation, I am coming to the conclusion it may be just personal taste and having the right two (or more) buyers willing to bid. I saw a heavily customized '63 split window Corvette sell at $300K, when other good stock Corvette's were available for reasonable money. Yes it looked nice (as much as it can to me being a non Corvette guy), but who pays $300K for a custom Corvette!

Well, he only got $105K for it this time. It certainly indicates the market has a preference for stock and unmodified appearing cars as that is a much stronger result than either of the two “customized” cars sold before it. The last Pantera listed had no photos, and shows no details regarding bids or sale, so I wonder if it even made it to the auction.

This is the third or fourth time it has come back up for sale in an attempt to profit from the flip. He'll likely have to get ~$125 to make any money at this point. It is a beautiful car, and in red to me represents the high point of Ford's foray into sales of exotic cars at the time.

It was highly modified wth some unusual “personal” touches that I would have expected to hurt the value quite a bit more — as some are not easy reversible. Have a look at the way the fender front edges meet the front hood. The interior is modified, but not that well if you look at the door panels and the bumps and bagging in the leather elsewhere. No shoulder belts? A broom holding up the rear decklid… there is a lot to question on this car, IMHO. I think the seller should be pleased.
