[DeTomaso] DeTomaso Digest, Vol 151, Issue 5

I was thinking the difference between an occasional 0 to 100 bash (drag race stuff) versus a few laps at a track day.

<!--#yiv4173618488 P {margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0;}-->I thought Tom said he planned to use it in his Pantera project!
Per Tom this was a 'fully rebuilt' engine that has a cylinder wall cracked after dyno runs, I don't think the recommendation would change no matter how he intends to drive his Pantera, you have to question the integrity of the other 7 cylinders.

A sleeve is most certainly a solution to fix that cylinder, my concern
would be that the overbore has resulted in more than just the one
cylinder having a thin wall, so it may be just a matter of time before
you are into a full rebuild. It's good that you caught the #5 cylinder
crack early, you may not be as lucky next time once it is being driven.
That could result in a catastrophic failure and require all new
internals that may be reusable right now.
As you need to remove the engine and tear it down for the sleeve, I'd
have it sonic checked at a minimum. From what I have heard finding good
core blocks is a challenge these days, unless you want to lay down some
serious mullah for one of the more bulletproof aftermarket blocks.

Question for the fellow owners?
the project I purchased came with a fully rebuilt 351c engine . I
dynoed it and it was fine at 7000rpms producing some 545 HP
after installation it turns out cyl. #5 has a crack in the cyl. into
the cooling system ! so would one sleeve that cylinder ? all were
bored to 4.035 on rebuild.
or replace the block with cast steel or aluminum block?
