Cory, early cars routed the A/C hoses thru the right (passenger side) rocker panel, while later cars routed the hoses thru the center console. If you have trouble and blow a hose, the vented oil and freon will still get into the passenger compartment with either routing. The hoses are about the same length either way, but the later routing needs some creative trimming of the soundproofing in the big firewall upholstering panel to acommodate the needed hose bends. AC hoses are very stiff and need larger bend radii than you'd think.

When I ran hard lines (to avoid most hoses and their failures) along with a front-mount condenser, I routed the lines below the floor along the inner edge of the passenger rocker panel. Some yhought was needed to route the lines along the bottom of the rt front wheel cut-out and up along the upper front subframe rail, out to the condenser in front of the radiator. If you do this, remember to put the dryer can with its sight gauge somewhere a service tech can see it while adding freon. On my installation, I found an aluminum dryer can from a semi-tractor thats short enough to sit in the corner of the front hood just to the right of the OEM battery tray, without hitting the hood or chopping a hole in the trunk floor. Hookup to the under- dash evaporator is thru the original holes in the front firewall. Good luck- J Deryke

A few years ago I got roped into being the pit monkey for my friend with his
full race Alfa TZ (Tubolare Zagato). Car ran fine at 7000 feet, but at
Sears Point it would not start. Some Alfa guru older than dirt came along
and watched a few minutes . . . reached in and pulled on the enrichment
levers and the buggar fired right off. Learned something about Webers that
day.

I worry about running a motor overly rich and washing down the cylinder
walls and don't run chokes on any of my junk. Once the motor fires on all
cylinders I would turn the chokes off and warm the oil in the driveway.

YMMV

Thanks to Bill Moore, Scott Bell, Ron McCall, and Jack DeRyke for your input
about my question on adding electric power steering to #2163.

I have a feeling that I am going to enjoy my low speed driving and stop and
go traffic a lot more next year J

What a great resource this list is !!

Sorry I am a little late to the party. I started gathering parts for
this project last year and a bunch of stuff has gotten in the way for now.
This is about building a DIY EPAS power steering unit.

The you tube video states it can be done for $100 but things have
changed from the time the video was done.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKzCaEjvJeM

Used part locations have found the value of the Saturn EPAS steering
box. I had to pay $225.00 for mine but it is complete with all the
wiring and plugs intact. I did purchase the controller from the fellow
in Portugal. It was still $65.00 the first of this year. I have those
pieces in stock but have not made any headway on installing it. I was
looking at under dash instead of under car but have not progressed
passed getting the parts.

It looks like a good project for the Pantera owner. I have wide tires
on 2 of my P cars but I also have a supercharged stroked 331 Windsor in
my 96 Miata and it is a chore to park. I pulled its left over unpowered
power steering rack and changed it to manual. It is still a chore to
turn at parking lot speeds.

Am trying to get back on the project just to see how hard it is to
mount. The rest looks pretty simple with some steering couplers or some
machining.

Fellow Maui POCA member, Paul Decoite, bought one earlier this year, replete in Gulf colors, a Roush 427, RBT ZF and all the trimmings. Paul let me drive it on a run back in September, and I can attest that it's as fast, raucous and uncomfortable as the Real Deal, and an absolute mega-blast to drive. Make no mistake, it's a race car with the bare essentials (such as AC) for the street. It's also a sure cure for erectile dysfunction - just slam the loud pedal home and listen to the wail through the bundle of snakes megaphones!

Don?t assume you pissed them off.

I pissed off my neighbor in Houston because I took a different car to work
(other than the Pantera), and he overslept that day.

Okay, I didn?t really piss him off, but he was using my car as an alarm
clock.

Scott,

Cool car--but those aren't Gulf colors. It's painted to copy the 1966 Le Mans entry of Denny Holme and Ken Miles, which famously crossed the finish line first (they slowed WAY down to let the 2nd and 3rd place GT40s catch up). In a terrible Gaullic twist, the French officials decided to award the win to the 2nd place car because it had started 20-30 feet further back--the greatest ripoff in racing history.

Loads of people have copies of the black No. 2 car that was awarded the win--I'm glad to see somebody is paying tribute to the undisputed REAL winners of the race!

Do a Google search to see images of the real car, and a more in-depth telling of the story.

Oh, and I loved your description of driving it too. I've been fortunate to ride in or drive four different Superformance GT40s. The slow one was super fast, and the fastest one (Mike Trusty's) was borderline undriveable!

Mike

You're right about the color scheme, Mike. Sorry, my bad.

The Roush engine Paul has in the car is very similar in nature to the power plant Charlie Seabrook's GT40. It balks like a sun of a gun, until the tach reaches 3-grand, then all hell breaks loose: you're slammed into the seat as it comes on cam, rocketing to 8-grand like a Photon Torpedo on steroids. It's freakishly fast (because you feel like you're only doing a buck, when it's actually 20-30 above that), incredibly stable and can bite hard if you don't treat it with respect. While I only drove it for a few hours total, it took two days for my back to recover, and my ears to stop ringing (while using ear plugs). Dang, I love that car!

In a terrible Gaullic twist, the French officials decided to award the win to the 2nd place car because it had started 20-30 feet further back--the greatest ripoff in racing history.

Ditto. I leave for my client site at 5:30 AM and one day I took the
Pantera. Though I basically idled out of my neighborhood, my next door
neighbor (a car guy) mentioned he woke to the rumbling. When I apologized,
he said with a smile "No No No, it was a rather comforting feeling when you
are snuggled in bed". I don't think my other neighbors are that
understanding though.

All,

Please educate me on AC hose routing, etc. for rear condenser systems as well as front condenser conversions. For the rear condenser option, I'd be concealing the hoses. Pics and help is much appreciated!

PS, I'm not asking for opinions on which (front or rear) is the best way to go. I'm sure there are a few opinions on this! I'm just looking to see if I need to modify my car further for either option.

I use a 3M product - https://www.amazon.com/3M-08008-Black-Weatherstrip-Adhesive/dp/B00063X38M with good success. Just redid the crinkle finish on my two side panels and used the 3M stuff to hold the rubber seals on the outer edges ? so far are holding great. Also used it on the rubber seals on the inner fenders ? another tough hold situation.

Hope this helps.

These are the ones from the side covers to the body correct? These are
metal reinforced crimp on?s so you probably need new ones that are softer
and more plyable.

Where I need weatherstrip adhesive I am using the 3M Super weatherstrip adhesive. It's served me well, like contact cent you need to let it get tacky first for best results.

Cory, early cars routed the A/C hoses thru the right (passenger side)
rocker panel, while later cars routed the hoses thru the center
console. If you have trouble and blow a hose, the vented oil and freon
will still get into the passenger compartment with either routing. The
hoses are about the same length either way, but the later routing needs
some creative trimming of the soundproofing in the big firewall
upholstering panel to acommodate the needed hose bends. AC hoses are
very stiff and need larger bend radii than you'd think.
When I ran hard lines (to avoid most hoses and their failures) along
with a front-mount condenser, I routed the lines below the floor along
the inner edge of the passenger rocker panel. Some yhought was needed
to route the lines along the bottom of the rt front wheel cut-out and
up along the upper front subframe rail, out to the condenser in front
of the radiator. If you do this, remember to put the dryer can with its
sight gauge somewhere a service tech can see it while adding freon. On
my installation, I found an aluminum dryer can from a semi-tractor
thats short enough to sit in the corner of the front hood just to the
right of the OEM battery tray, without hitting the hood or chopping a
hole in the trunk floor. Hookup to the under- dash evaporator is thru
the original holes in the front firewall. Good luck- J Deryke

Thanks to Bill Moore, Scott Bell, Ron McCall, and Jack DeRyke for your
   input
about my question on adding electric power steering to #2163.
I have a feeling that I am going to enjoy my low speed driving and stop
   and
go traffic a lot more next year J
What a great resource this list is !!

Sorry I am a little late to the party. I started gathering parts for
this project last year and a bunch of stuff has gotten in the way for
   now.
This is about building a DIY EPAS power steering unit.
The you tube video states it can be done for $100 but things have
changed from the time the video was done.
   [18]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKzCaEjvJeM
Am trying to get back on the project just to see how hard it is to
mount. The rest looks pretty simple with some steering couplers or some
   machining.

Fellow Maui POCA member, Paul Decoite, bought one earlier this year,

let me drive it on a run back in September, and I can attest that it's

Don?t assume you pissed them off.
I pissed off my neighbor in Houston because I took a different car to
   work
(other than the Pantera), and he overslept that day.
Okay, I didn?t really piss him off, but he was using my car as an alarm
   clock.

   Scott,
Cool car--but those aren't Gulf colors. It's painted to copy the 1966
Le Mans entry of Denny Holme and Ken Miles, which famously crossed the
finish line first (they slowed WAY down to let the 2nd and 3rd place
GT40s catch up). In a terrible Gaullic twist, the French officials
decided to award the win to the 2nd place car because it had started
20-30 feet further back--the greatest ripoff in racing history.
Loads of people have copies of the black No. 2 car that was awarded the
win--I'm glad to see somebody is paying tribute to the undisputed REAL
   winners of the race!
Do a Google search to see images of the real car, and a more in-depth
   telling of the story.
Oh, and I loved your description of driving it too. I've been fortunate
to ride in or drive four different Superformance GT40s. The slow one
was super fast, and the fastest one (Mike Trusty's) was borderline
   undriveable!

You're right about the color scheme, Mike. Sorry, my bad.
The Roush engine Paul has in the car is very similar in nature to the
power plant Charlie Seabrook's GT40. It balks like a sun of a gun,
until the tach reaches 3-grand, then all hell breaks loose: you're
slammed into the seat as it comes on cam, rocketing to 8-grand like a
Photon Torpedo on steroids. It's freakishly fast (because you feel like
you're only doing a buck, when it's actually 20-30 above that),
incredibly stable and can bite hard if you don't treat it with respect.
While I only drove it for a few hours total, it took two days for my
back to recover, and my ears to stop ringing (while using ear plugs).
   Dang, I love that car!

Ditto. I leave for my client site at 5:30 AM and one day I took the
Pantera. Though I basically idled out of my neighborhood, my next door
neighbor (a car guy) mentioned he woke to the rumbling. When I
   apologized,
he said with a smile "No No No, it was a rather comforting feeling when
   you
are snuggled in bed". I don't think my other neighbors are that
   understanding though.

   All,
Please educate me on AC hose routing, etc. for rear condenser systems
as well as front condenser conversions. For the rear condenser option,
I'd be concealing the hoses. Pics and help is much appreciated!
PS, I'm not asking for opinions on which (front or rear) is the best
way to go. I'm sure there are a few opinions on this! I'm just looking
to see if I need to modify my car further for either option.

   I use a 3M product -
   [111]https://www.amazon.com/3M-08008-Black-Weatherstrip-Adhesive/dp/B00
063X38M with good success. Just redid the crinkle finish on my two side
panels and used the 3M stuff to hold the rubber seals on the outer
edges ? so far are holding great. Also used it on the rubber seals on
the inner fenders ? another tough hold situation.
   Hope this helps.

These are the ones from the side covers to the body correct? These are
metal reinforced crimp on?s so you probably need new ones that are
   softer
   and more plyable.
